MU's Laskowski Honored As Big 12 Player of the Week

March 20, 2001

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri freshman outfielder Lee Laskowski of St. Louis, Mo., and Texas Tech senior pitcher Brandon Roberson of Fort Worth, Texas, have been selected as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, by a select panel of media covering Big 12 baseball for games played from Mar. 12-18.

Laskowski enjoyed a .429 week (9-for-21) with two home runs and five RBI as the Tigers scored a doubleheader sweep 9-5 and 13-4 over then-No. 6 Pepperdine in Columbia, Mo., to highlight a 4-1 week. Though MU had a six-game winning skein stopped in a 2-1 loss to the Waves last week, Laskowski had 17 total bases and a .810 slugging percentage with just two strikeouts in 23 plate appearances. He had three multi-hit games during the stretch and homered in back-to-back games against Truman State and Pepperdine.

Roberson, who pitched in one game in 2000 before being lost for the year with an arm injury, pitched a nine-inning shutout against Kansas State last Friday in a 7-0 win. The righthander gave up seven hits and struck out nine batters while moving into third place in overall whiffs among Big 12 pitchers with 48 in 44 1/3 innings pitched.
