AMES, Iowa - Eleven athletes from the University of Missouri track and field team competed at the Last Chance Qualifier here Friday evening.
Sophomore thrower Russ Bell picked up the win in the weight throw, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and career best of 66-5.25. He took second in the shot put with a 59-2.25 mark. Senior high jumper Jay Meystedt, who has already provisionally qualified, picked up the win with a 6-10.25 leap. Meystedt jumped 7-1 at the Meyo Invitational Feb. 2. Joining Bell in the ranks of provisional qualifiers were senior Phil Councilor and Stewart Kimball in the 800-meter run. Councilor turned in a time of 1:49.84 (seventh place) and Kimball posted a time of 1:50.80 (10th place).
For the women, sophomore Christi Myers went 5-9.25 in the high jump for second place. She turned in a provisional mark at the MU All-Comers Feb. 17. Senior Ashley Wysong turned in a third-place and provisional time of 2:07.67 in the 800. Two more seniors, Sunny Gilbert and Katie Meyer, finished in seventh place in the 800m and mile respectively.
