Softball Wins Exhibition Doubleheader

Feb. 4, 2001

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri softball team beat Truman State 4-2 and 6-5 in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon in the Devine Pavilion.

In the first game, the Tigers racked up a 3-0 lead on extra-base hits by third baseman Rachael McGinnis and shortstop Lindsey Jacoby.

Truman State answered the call with two out in the fourth, scoring two runs on a pair of singles by Jennifer Hulsopple and Missy Kane. The Bulldogs could not close the gap, though, as the Tigers went on to score one more to win the game 4-2. Senior centerfielder Karen Williams was four for five at the plate and scored two runs.

The second game scoring started quickly as the Bulldogs notched two runs in the top of the first on a double by freshman Elizabeth Economon. The Tigers would answer in the bottom of the inning with two RBI off hits by Rachael McGinnis and Lindsey Jacoby, tying the score at two.

The Tigers scored four more runs in the next three innings, including two runs in the second inning off another triple by McGinnis. The Bulldogs would bring three more across the plate to make the final score 6-5.

Mizzou begins its official season next Friday, 11 a.m., at the Fiesta Bowl Classic in Tempe, Ariz., where the Tigers will take on Massachusetts in the first round of tournament play.
