Feb. 11, 2001

MALIBU, Calif. -- The University of Missouri baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Sunday, falling 4-1 to nationally ranked Pepperdine at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The Tigers are now 1-1-1 on the season.

Missouri got its lone run on a solo home run by Jon Williams (Sr., Imperial, Mo.) to open the eighth inning. The Tigers finished the game with only four hits after collecting 11 in Saturday's win over Loyola Marymount.

Pepperdine scored two runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the seventh inning, taking advantage of three walks each time. Dane Ball hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to give Pepperdine a 2-0 lead.

Missouri will play in the Applebee's Baseball Fiesta this coming weekend. The Tigers will face Mountain West Conference members Nevada-Las Vegas, New Mexico and Utah in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
