Jan. 9, 2001

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will honor former men's basketball coach Norm Stewart in a special ceremony at the Hearnes Center on Jan. 29th, in conjunction with Mizzou's game against Kansas.

Stewart, who retired on April 1, 1999 after 32 seasons as Mizzou's head coach, won 634 games at MU, and sported an overall career record of 731-375 in 38 years. When he stepped down, he was the seventh-winningest coach in NCAA history.

"We're looking forward to honoring a man who proved to be one of the alltime greats in college basketball," said Director of Athletics Mike Alden. "It will be a special evening, and this ceremony should only add to the excitement of such a thrilling rivalry game," he said.

Tipoff for the game, which will be shown nationally as part of ESPN's "Big Monday" is set for 8:00 p.m. The game is sold out.
