Softball Hosts Exhibition with Truman State Sunday

Jan. 31, 2001

Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Tiger softball team prepares for the season this Sunday as it hosts an exhibition game with Truman State at Devine Pavilion at 1 p.m.

Truman State posted a 44-12 record last season in Division II, winning the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association title. The Bulldogs' Head Coach Kristy Schroeder returns 10 members of last year's squad.

The Missouri Tigers competed against Columbia College in an unusual exhibition game last Sunday at Devine Pavilion. The Tigers and Cougars played a 100-inning game, each team batting for fifteen outs at a time. The batters each faced only one pitch, hurled from a pitching machine to ensure consistency. Play lasted 4 hours and 20 minutes, ending with a 71-20 Tiger win.

Missouri opens its regular season on Fri., Feb. 9, in Tempe, Ariz., at the Fiesta Bowl Classic Tournament. Opponents will include Massachusetts, Utah State, UNLV, Wisconsin, New Mexico State, and Arizona.
