Columbia, Mo. - Associate Athletic Director Mario Moccia announced today that the Tiger softball 2001 season will be broadcast live on KCOU 88.1 FM and games (home and away) starting March 19 will be broadcast on KTGR 1580 AM.
The Tiger softball games will also be available via the Internet, either on the websites of the two respective stations, or via the Missouri Tiger Athletic Homepage at www.mutigers.com. However, early season tournaments in Tempe, Ariz., Columbus, Ga., and St. George, Utah, will not be broadcast.
This is the first time the softball team has had regular broadcast coverage, and Missouri Head Coach Jay Miller is excited at the prospect. "We are very excited with our new radio contract for the 2001 season," said Coach Miller. "It sets Missouri Softball apart from the rest of the Big XII schools as well as other programs across the nation in radio coverage for softball. We are looking forward to working with both KCOU and KTGR this spring. It will provide our fans with outstanding coverage and enable them to follow the Tigers both at home and on the road."
Missouri returns eight starters and welcomes 6 newcomers, including junior transfer Heather Allister from Palomar Junior College in Palomar, Calif., and sophomore transfer Melanie Fisher from Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. Under the leadership of seniors Stephanie Falk and Karen Williams, the Tigers hope to improve on last season's record of 34-27.
