Ready for trip

Feb. 7, 2001

The University of Missouri baseball team took Wednesday off in preparation of opening the 2001 season in California this weekend.

Missouri will practice Thursday in California before opening the season against San Jose State Friday at 3 p.m.

Here is Tuesday's report. The Tigers again took advantage of Tuesday's weather and held a scrimmage at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.

After seeing four home runs in Monday's scrimmage, the pitching staff shined as it did not allow a run for six innings. Freshmen pitchers Shaun Marcum and Mike Mitchell started and threw well. Mitch Kiler had a solid relief appearance.

Jon Williams and Andy Runyan each homered in the contest.

The Tigers close the preseason practice schedule Wednesday afternoon. Missouri heads to California Thursday in preparation of its three-game weekend series to open the 2001 campaign.
