Mizzou bounces Kangaroos

Kansas City, Mo. - The University of Missouri Volleyball team traveled to Kansas City Wednesday night to take on the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos and came away with a 15-12, 15-8, 15-2 victory. The trip was a homecoming for several players on the MU squad with many of them receiving rousing ovations when they were introduced in the pre-game festivities.
Sophomores Christi Myers (Raytown South HS) and Lisa Morris (Blue Valley Northwest HS) were two of the Kansas City natives who received the home town cheers and then proceeded to give the hometown crowd quality performances collecting 13 and 10 kills respectively. Myers also put down four total blocks while Morris was third on the team in digs with seven on the night.
Junior Krista Johnson had a solid match registering 12 kills and knocked down six of the Tigers 19 blocks in the match. Johnson tallied a .500 hitting percentage and the Tiger continued a season long trend that has developed hitting .392 as a team for the match while collected 66 kills in the win.
After Wednesday's 29-assist performance, senior setter Heather Gerber continues to inch closer to the MU all-time assists record and now has 3,806 career assists, just six behind Cindy Atterberry's mark set between 1990-93. Senior Annette Luyten also continues her climb up the MU record charts and is now tied for the No. 4 position on the career block/assists with 217. Luyten added nine kills and six digs for the Tigers in the UMKC match.
The win moves the Tigers to 4-0 on the season, the best start by a MU team since 1998. The Tigers will host the Lathrop & Gage Tiger Invitational this Friday and Saturday. A complete match schedule follows:
