Hartsburg, Mo. - The University of Missouri men's golf team tied today with Kansas State at the first-annual Cat Fight, which was held at Eagle Knoll Golf Club, located south of Columbia.
The two Big 12 Conference rivals ended up in an 8-all tie, after 16 matches were contested in the unique scoring format that saw eight players from each team square off against eachother in two rounds of play. Each match was worth one point, and each school won an identical eight matches. Kansas State won the tiebreaker due to a lower total of its best four rounds in the afternoon.
In the morning round, Mizzou won four of the first six matches to take a 4-2 lead, but the Wildcats claimed the last two to forge a 4-4 tie heading into the afternoon.
Missouri again threatened to walk away with a win in the afternoon, as MU won three of the first four matches, to take a 7-5 lead. But KSU rallied to claim three of the final four matches to make the final tally eight apiece.
Tiger junior Tom Vogt was the leader for MU, as the St. Charles, Mo. native won both of his matches, playing in the #6 spot. He defeated K-State's Ryan Wilson (#6) in the morning, 74 to 80, and edged #5 Dan Demory 79 to 80 in the afternoon.
Tiger senior David Suggs, still hampered by a rib injury suffered two weeks ago, notched a win in the afternoon's final match to force the tie. He defeated KSU #2 man, Bryan Milberger, 81 to 89 in the final match.
This was MU's final tune-up prior to the Big 12 Championships, which will be held April 24-25 in Hutchinson, Kan.
