
#9 Northern Iowa Downs MU Wrestlers, 31-2

Cedar Falls, Iowa - The University of Missouri wrestling team dropped its second dual in a row to a top-10 opponent Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 9 Northern Iowa, 31-2. The loss left the Tigers with a 10-10 mark, while the Panthers' record was raised to 10-4-2.
No. 18-ranked freshman JEREMY SPATES (141) won his team-leading 28th match for MU, a 7-5 decision over UNI's Mark Rial. Spates shares the team wins lead with No. 16 JEFF URBAN (149) and No. 11 JOHN KOPNISKY (174).
Urban, who earned a huge victory over Iowa State's Billy Maldonado on Friday, lost 12-2 to No.1-ranked Tony Davis from UNI on Sunday. Kopnisky suffered his second defeat in a row, falling to No.6 Randy Pugh, 8-4 in the dual's first match.
As was the case Friday, MU lost close matches throughout the lineup, dropping three bouts by four points or less. Among those were an 8-6 overtime loss for sophomore JESSE JORDAN (157), a 3-2 loss for sophomore JESSE WEST (125), and Kopnisky's defeat.
Two duals remain on the dual schedule for MU before the end of the season. Both are home matches taking place Wednesday, February 16 at 8 p.m. when Missouri hosts Oklahoma in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse and Sunday, February 20 at 1 p.m. when Northern Illinois visits MU.
