
Missouri Wrestling Loses To #4 Oklahoma, 33-3

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri wrestling team lost its 11th match of the season Wednesday night, 33-3 to #4 Oklahoma at Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. MU is now 10-11 on the season, while the Sooners improve to 16-3-1.
Freshman JEREMY SPATES (141), whose father is Oklahoma head coach Jack Spates, won his team-best 29th match of the season, with a 7-2 win over Melvin Lofton. Spates is now 29-9 overall, 2-2 in Big 12 Conference action. On Sunday versus Northern Illinois, Spates will attempt to become the first Tiger wrestler since Shaon Fry (38 wins) in 1994 to win 30 matches in one season.
Tiger senior JEFF URBAN (149) lost a battle to OU's No. 7-ranked Jared Frayer, 5-3 at 149 pounds. Urban and Frayer fought to the last buzzer, with Urban coming up just short of the upset victory. MU's senior is now 28-10, with a career-high win total. and 97 career wins at Missouri.
Oklahoma put the match away early with three major decisions and a pin in the first four bouts. With that 18-0 lead, the Sooners reeled off three decisions to stretch the advantage to 27-0. Spates' win gave MU its first points in the match's nineth bout. Frayer's win over Urban in the final bout gave OU the 33-3, Big 12 Conference victory.
Missouri closes out its dual schedule on Sunday, February 20 when it hosts Northern Illinois in the Hearnes Fieldhouse beginning at 1 p.m.
