COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri cross coutry team travels to Waterloo, Iowa for this weekend's NCAA Midwest Regional. The MU women are ranked 19th nationally in the latest FinishLynx National Coaches Poll. The meet will be held Nov. 11, at the Irv Warren Golf Course on the UNI campus. The men's 8K begins at 11:00 a.m. followed by the women's 6K at 12:15 p.m.
"Both teams are excited about the opportunity to compete at the Midwest Regionals. Traditionally we have run very well at this meet," said head cross country coach Jared Wilmes.
The team last competed Oct. 28, at the Big 12 Conference Championships in Boulder, Colo. The MU men scored 113 points beating out 23rd-ranked Nebraska by 40 points and 26th-ranked Texas by 28 points. Senior Nick Smith paced the Tigers with a time of 25:34.13 and a 12th-place finish. Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers were junior Mike Pitts (25:47) in 17th place, senior Adam MacDowell (26:01) in 25th place, junior Ryan Fitzgerald (26:09) in 28th place, and senior Lee Tittle (26:13) in 31st place.
The Missouri women scored 100 points coming in 14 points ahead of then 21st-ranked Texas A&M. Mizzou got season-high performances from sophomore Kerry Hils (21:01) and Ann Marie Brooks (21:03), who finished 10th and 11th respectively. Also scoring for the Tigers was senior Katie Meyer (21:48) in 23rd place, sophomore Amy Chipman (22:02) placed 26th and senior Sunny Gilbert (22:10) placed 30th.
