Several Tigers Receive Big 12 Recognition

Dallas--The Big 12 Conference honored its top soccer student-athletes in the fifth annual All-Big 12 Conference Soccer Teams, voted on by the league head coaches and released by the conference office Tuesday.

Senior Nikki Thole earned a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team for the third consecutive year. Thole, who was tabbed an All-American by three different organizations last season, leads the Tigers with 25 points and nine assists. She has taken a team-high 77 shots and 35 shots on goal for a .455 shot on goal percentage.

In the Big 12, Thole ranks third in overall shots and a 4.29 shots per game average. She is fourth in the league averaging .53 assists per game and is tied for sixth in points, averaging 1.47 points per game. Thole is ninth in the conference in goals.

Junior Dyana Russell received second-team All-Big 12 honors and has been a tenacious defender for the Tigers. Freshman Adriene Davis was named to the All-Newcomer team and is second on the Mizzou squad with 24 points. She leads the team with 10 goals, and also owns four assists. The forward leads the team with a .587 shot on goal percentage taking 27 of 46 shots to the net. She also leads the Tigers with four game-winning goals.

Seven members of the squad also were recognized for their outstanding accomplisments in the classroom and are listed below:

The Tigers travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the 2000 Big 12 Soccer Championships Wed.-Sat., Nov. 1-4. The Tigers enter the tournament as the fifth seed and will play their first match against the No. 4 seed Baylor tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The winner of the game will play the Nebraska-Kansas victor on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
