COLUMBIA, Mo. - Six Tiger women and three Tiger men were named to the 2000 cross country Academic All-Big 12 team the league announced Monday afternoon.
Junior Ann Marie Brooks, who holds a 4.0 grade point average in interdisciplinary studies, was named to the league's first team. Also on the first team are seniors Sunny Gilbert (biochemistry) and Katie Meyer (political science), and juniors Becky Froelker (accounting) and Katie Sekinger (human development). Sophomore Amy Chipman (undecided) was named to the second team.
For the Tiger men, senior Phil Councilor (history) was chosen second team along with junior teammates Ryan Fitzgerald (finance) and Mike Pitts (finance).
"These honors speak highly about our kids and the commitment to academics Coach (Rick) McGuire has set for the entire track and field program," said cross country Head Coach Jared Wilmes.
In order to qualify for the Academic All-Big 12 team, athletes must hold at least a 3.0 GPA cumulatively or for two semesters. First team honors are given to those who hold a 3.20 GPA or higher. Second teamers are selected among athletes with a GPA between 3.0 and 3.19. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible.
