ASU Brings Tiger Softball Team First Loss

Oct. 20, 2000

Columbia, Mo.: Despite sophomore transfer Melanie Fisher's 2-3 effort at the plate today, the Missouri Tigers Softball Team gave up three in the eighth to lose the game 3-1.

In the first inning, pitcher Stephanie Falk struck out Arizona State's Erin Wardein to save the inning with the bases loaded and no runs scored.

For the rest of the regulation innings only four hits total were allowed by either team. Missouri's came in the second inning, when sophomore transfer Melanie fisher singled to the third baseman. She was left standing, as were all three runners for Arizona State when their hits came in the fourth, sixth, and seventh.

The eighth inning heated up, however, as ASU scored on a wild throw from the catcher to the first baseman. They went on to score two more runs, while Missouri scored on a double to centerfield by Fisher. This was Missouri's first fall season loss, bringing their record to 9-1.

Tomorrow Kansas adds itself to the fray as Tigers host a round-robin at University Field. Missouri will take on Arizona State at 11 a.m., and Kansas at 1 p.m, followed by a third game between ASU and Missouri Sunday at 11 a.m.
