MU Volleyball Team Holds Final Preseason Tune-Up

Aug. 29, 2000

Columbia. Mo. - Approximately 200 Tiger fans came out Tuesday evening for the first-annual Black and Gold scrimmage held in the Hearnes Center. The MU squad was split into MU Black and MU White with each team taking a set in the two-set contest. Sophomore outside hitter Lisa Morris led the way for the MU White team recording 13 kills while junior transfer Kristen Johnson paced the MU Black team with nine kills.

The event provided the Tigers with a great opportunity to play in front of a crowd and tune up for the season, but it also allowed fans to get a close up look at the 2000 edition of the MU volleyball. Athletic Director Mike Alden welcomed the crowd before the match and first-year head coach Susan Kreklow introduced players, coaches, and staff before the action started. During the match, associate head coach Wayne Kreklow gave commentary to the crowd about certain in-game situations and instruction on different volleyball techniques. Following the match, the Tigers signed autographs while hors d'oeuvres were being served.

The Tigers travel to the Oral Roberts Invitational this weekend for their season opening matches. They take on Wichita State on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and then pull double duty on Saturday going up against Arkansas-Little Rock and the host school Oral Roberts at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively. The first Tiger home match will be on Sept. 8-9 when they host the Lathrop and Gage Tiger Invitational in the Hearnes Center.
