Woodstock, Ill. - The University of Missouri wrestling team split two duals on Sunday, beating Marquette, 38-12 before dropping a 19-17 decision to Northwestern. The loss to NU halted MU?s winning streak at six. Missouri is now 9-7 on the season and has recorded the most wins by a Tiger wrestling squad since the 1984-85 team finished the season 11-10-0. Marquette was unranked, while Northwestern received votes in the latest national top-25 team polls.

Sophomore KEVIN HERRON (197) continued his all-star wrestling, winning both matches Sunday to stretch his consecutive wins streak to 11. Herron, 21-7, also became the fifth Tiger this season to win 20 or more matches. All seven of his losses have come to wrestlers ranked among the nation?s top-20, a list Herron, himself may make for the first time in his Tiger career after a strong weekend performance.

Missouri senior JEFF URBAN (149) also improved his record with two wins, his eighth and ninth in a row, to 25-8. The No. 16-ranked wrestler in the nation at 149 has now tied his career-high for wins in a season and is now only six wins away from reaching 100 victories during his career. He would be just the seventh wrestler at MU at reach that mark.

Both No. 15 JEREMY SPATES (141) and No. 12 JOHN KOPNISKY (174) picked up a victory over Marquette, but each also dropped a decision to Northwestern wrestlers ranked ahead of them in the national polls. Spates, lost 3-1 to No. 5 Scott Schatzman, while Kopnisky lost a 9-6 bout with No. 8 Mark Bybee.

Missouri next wrestles, Thursday, January 27, when it hosts Central Missouri State at the Hearnes Center beginning at 7 p.m.
