Just one day after being left off the Big 12 Conference first team by the Associated Press, University of Missouri junior forward ALBERT WHITE was named the conference's Most Valuable Player, by CNN/SI.
One of the nation's most versatile players, White leads Missouri in scoring (16.4 ppg), rebounding (8.5 rpg) and assists (3.2 apg) - making him the first Tiger to ever lead the team in all three important categories. White ranks 5th in the Big 12 Conference in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage (47.9%), and also ranks 15th in assists. He is the only player in the league to rank among the top five in both scoring and rebounding. Despite the outstanding resume, White was selected to the All-Big 12 second team, according to AP. White was named the Big 12's player-of-the-week on Monday, for his performances last week, in helping Missouri claim the Big 12 North Division title.
White began the week with his 8th double-double of the season, as he notched 16 points and 12 rebounds against Iowa State. He followed that with a stellar performance on Saturday at Texas, scoring a game-high 23 points and adding eight rebounds. He carried the Tigers early, scoring 13 of the team's first 15 points, and helped wrap things up at the end, as he hit 3-of-4 free throws and assisted on two big buckets in the game's final minutes.
It is the second time this season that White has earned Big 12 weekly award. He was named the league's player-of-the-week back on Dec. 15th, for a near triple-double (16 pts./10 rebs./9 assists) vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff and a monster 28-point, 16-rebound performance at SMU.
