The Missouri men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Ames, Iowa on Friday, October 21, to compete at the Big 12 Relay meet. Five of the six conference schools participated in the one day meet. This meet was unlike any other meet the Tiger will swim during the remainder of the 1999-2000 season. Every event that the athletes competed in were relays. There were no individual events swam.
The women's team scored 67 points, 21 behind both Kansas and Texas A&M who tied for second with 86 points. Missouri won two relays, both breaststroke, while also turning in several top three finishes.
Head coach Brian Hoffer was pleased with the team's overall performance.
"We got off to a slow start," Hoffer said. After the break we came back with a much better level of intensity and had much better swims. I was excited for the breaststroke wins since that has been our weakness in the past. Also for the freshman to perform like they did in their first Big 12 meet, especially Chrissy Frieh and Ellen Cross."
The Tigers compete in Ames, Iowa again this weekend as they open their dual meet season against the Iowa State Cylcones on Friday, October 29. At last years meet, the Missouri women easily defeated the Tigers while the men fell to the 24th-ranked ISU men.
