Tiger Softball Continues to Roll Over Opponents

Oct. 10, 1999

Columbia, Mo - The Missouri Tiger Softball team shut out their fourth and fifth opponents today at University Field. The Tigers have beat their fall opponents by an average of five runs.

The Tigers first faced off against the Cavaliers from Johnson County Community College. Freshman Ingrid Werner from Fremont California picked up the win for the Tigers. Werner gave up only one hit in four innings and tallied five strikeouts. Senior Christy Caccavo pitched the last three innings. Missouri only tallied one more hit than their opponents, but doubles by seniors Stacy Gemeinhardt and Christy Skouby were big boosters for their team. These were the only hits for each of the players, and they scored the only runs for the team in the 2-0 win.

Missouri played a young infield in the first game. Head Coach Jay Miller started four sophomores and a freshman in the infield, Erin Erickson at third, Lindsey Jacoby at short stop, Sara McNeal at second, Mary McGrane at catcher and werner at pitcher.

The second game featured Missouri and Columbia College. Missouri won 4-0. Stephanie Falk pitched all seven innings in the shut out. Erickson was one-for-two on the game, scoring two runs. She also hit her fifth double of the fall season. Senior Linda Swarts also hit a double and a sacrifice fly in her two at bats, for two RBI.

Missouri's next game was scheduled to be next Sunday, October 17 vs Avila College and Meremac Community College at University Field. However, a double-header has been added on Wednesday, October 13 against Truman State at 2 and 4 p.m.
