COLUMBIA, MO., - The University of Missouri men's and women's cross country teams both took part in one of the nation's top collegiate competitions Friday (Oct. 1). The women ran to a second place team finish while the men earned a sixth place finish. Both teams competed against some of the nations top teams and runners.
On the women's side the Tigers finished second to host Notre Dame who was ranked 14th heading into the competition. However MU defeated No. 31 Oregon. Missouri had three runners finish in the top ten and all five of its scores place in the top 35. With less that one minute separating them, the Tiger women showed what team work is all about.
Leading the charge for MU's women was senior Anna Gullingsrud who conquered the 5K course in 17 minutes and 16 seconds. Gullingsard was followed closely by junior Katie Meyer who finished 5th in a time of 17:33. Freshman Amy Chipman is making her mark as she was the No. 3 runner for Missouri placing 7th overall with a time of 17:37. Rounding out the scores for Mizzou was sophomore Ann Marie Brooks who finished 24th in 18:05 and junior Justa Dahl placing 35th in 18:19. MU's No. 6 and No. 7 runners were sophomore Kim Moore placing 37th in 18:20 and freshman Kerry Hils who ran an 18:35 for a 54th place finish overall.
