Women's Tennis Starts Off Season with a Win

January 30, 1999

Columbia, Mo. -- The Missouri Womens Tennis team began their spring season with a win over Northern Iowa. The Tigers defeated the Panthers 5-4. Last year Northern Iowa defeated Missouri 7-2.

Freshman Biljana Pawlowa had a good day for the Tigers. She defeated Heather Mowery in a straight set win at the No. 1 position. However, it was junior Joni Jordan that clinched the win for the Tigers, defeating Amie Crowley in three sets.

We are improved, but we still have a long way to go. I am pleased the girls won, but we did not play particularly well and made this a lot tougher than it had to be. We will be spending a lot of time on doubles before our next match," said Tiger Head Coach Blake Starkey.
