COLUMBIA, MO. - The Missouri Tigers (35-17) split a Big 12 double header with the Iowa State Cyclones (22-27) today at University Field.
Missouri won the first game 3-2. Neither team scored until the fifth inning. The Tigers began the scoring in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on first and third, Kim Slover hit a sacrifice fly that scored Shawna Robinson.
The Cyclones answered back in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Michelle Junod reached first on an error by Robinson. Erin Woods hit a single to left field, advancing Junod. Jessica Polo ripped a double to center, scoring the two Cyclone runners and putting them in the lead 2-1.
Linda Swarts started off the bottom of the sixth for the Tigers with a single to right field. Jamie Lowry drove an RBI double to center, but was thrown out at third. Amy Farmer walked and represented the go ahead run for the Tigers at first. Lindsey Jacoby came in the game to pinch run for Farmer. The next play Erin Erickson reached first and Jacoby scored on an error by Jessica Polo. The Tigers only allowed one Cyclone runner on base in the seventh, securing their 3-2 victory.
Iowa State got an early lead on Missouri in the second game. Lisa Frank scored in the first inning off a sacrifice fly by Erin Woods. The Tigers loaded the bases in the second, but were unable to score.
Iowa State increased their lead in the third. They batted through their line up and scored four runs off five hits. Jana U'Ren came in to replace Christy Caccavo at pitcher for Missouri after Caccavo faced eight batters. It was U'ren's first appearance since March 19.
Iowa State scored again in the sixth inning. Cinnamon Gooding scored off a Robin Riedler single to right field. That score clinched Iowa State's 6-0 win. The Tigers were only able to get three hits in the game.
Kim Slover had the one bright spot in the second game. In the first inning, she got the 76th walk of her career, putting her first on the all-time career walks list at Missouri. The 19 year record was previously held by Hedy Frankenfield who played for Missouri from 1977-1980.
