Tigers Ready to Tip Off a New Season

November 4, 1998

On being picked 12th in the Big 12 Conference:

It will be an incentive for us. We have a lot of great players to get the job done.

On her coaching philosophy:

We like an uptempo style. We want to force the defense to push down the court. We are going to mix up the defenses to get our opponents off balance and not let them get into a rhythm. We are looking, not to win every game but to improve every game.

On how practice is going:

Our starting five is pretty much set. We're looking for a rotation off the bench to step in for those five.

The thing that Tracy has done at point guard is that she is really steady and calm. This leads to consistency.

Our top five players run the floor well, they shoot the ball well, and very athletic. We can't outman people without running.

On rebounding:

Rebounding is always a key. We work on that a lot.

We want Kesha (Bonds) to fly down the floor. We're going to get her the ball. She is performing really well right now. We've asked her to get a little more physical and she is working hard in the weight room.

On selling this team on her philosophy:

I've never had to sell this team on anything.

On junior Amy Monsees

Amy is a coaches dream. She is working hard in the weight room. She probably runs the press the best of anyone on our team.

What do you want out of your offense

We want five people out ther looking for the ball. It will be a motion offense even against a zone. No one will be standing still.

On the youth of the team:

The youth will help us down the road. Right now it hurst us, but everone on the team is improving.
