Bloomington, Indiana - Missouri Tiger head wrestling coach Brian Smith knew the Tigers match with Indiana would be a battle of two young, tough teams. The difference he said would be made in one or two matches. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the differences favored the Hoosiers, as they deafeated Coach Smith's men Saturday afternoon 24-15.
The Mizzou youth movement continued to grow, as freshmen Jesse Jordan (157), John Kopnisky (165), and Chad Hertzog (HWT) tallied victories. Junior Jeff Urban (149) continued to improve in his third campaign as a Tiger with a 7-2 win as well. Mark Bader, Mizzou's 133 wrestler also wrestled well losing a close 5-3 match.
The difference came in four other matches won by Indiana by a combined score of 60-17. The inability to score points in those matches hurt Missouri in the final score despite their four victories. The loss dropped the Tigers to 0-2 in dual meets this season. They next take on Purdue University at 2pm Sunday afternoon in West Lafayette.
