Softball Falls to Hoosiers, 1-0

March 18, 1999

The Missouri Tigers (15-10) lost to the Indiana Hoosiers (4-6) 1-0 at University field.

Missouri put two players on base in the first inning. With two outs, Christy Skouby hit a single to third. She advanced to third on the next play on an error by Indiana's short stop Sheri Savko. The Tigers were unable to bring in the run as Kim Slover got the third out, hitting right to Hoosier firstbaseperson, Jaimme Thedford.

The only run of the game came in the top of the third inning. Indiana's Erica Del Toro reached base on an error by Linda Swarts. She was out at second on the next play, but monique Bullock reached first on the fielder's choice. Bullock stole second, but the Tigers were able to put away the batter. With two outs, Staci Meek hit a single just out of the infield which allowed Bullock to score. The last batter of the inning flew out to center field.

Missouri had a chance to tie the game in the sixth inning, but couldn't get it done. With two outs, Mary McGrane, the designated player, singled to center field. Jaime Lowry then knocked a double to center field, advancing McGrane to third. McGrane and Lowry were left on base when Amy Farmer grounded out to third.

"We really need someone to step up and drive in the key runs," said Tiger head coach Jay Miller. "We need a little more leadership from some of our hitters. What happens is that we get two outs and then we get a couple of hits. What needs to happen is our leadoff hitters need to get on base so that we have some opportunities to score runs."

The Tigers now stand at 15-10 overall. They will host the Hoosiers again tomorrow at 2:00 and Loyola at 4:00 at University Field in the 13th Annual Missouri Invitational.
