Peterson Wins Third Straight Big 12 800m Outdoor Title; Sixth Overall

Waco, Texas - The Missouri Track & Field team completed competition today at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships finishing in tenth place in the men's events, tied for tenth with Iowa State and Texas Tech on the women's side. The Tigers bring home 16 all-Big 12 honors overall and one Big 12 Championship by Derrick Peterson. It was the third straight outdoor title for the junior and his sixth consecutive Big 12 Championships indoors and outdoors. Peterson's winning mark of 1:47.39 was not only a career best, but also a Big 12 Outdoor Championships meet record, which Peterson also previously held (1:47.78).

Darin File finished his Big 12 career with a third place finish in the javelin. The two-time all-American registered a 225-4 throw earning conference honors for the fourth consecutive year (1 all-Big 8, 3 all-Big 12), it was also his sixth provisional mark of the season. Lindsey Miller set a school mark in the women's triple jump, breaking her own record with a 40-7 1/2 leap, her previous best was 40-4 set earlier this year at Fresno State. Miller's effort placed her seventh in the event for all-Big 12 honors. Darrell Meinke represented MU well with a sixth place finish in the discus competition throwing 168-10 for an all-conference award.

In the running events, sophomore Ashley Wysong set a new school record in the 800m, 2:05.75, good for second place and all-conference honors. Sophomore Adam MacDowell was fifth in the 3,000m Steeplechase for his second all-Big 12 award and Joel McCune ended the 1,500m race in eighth place for all-Big 12 selection. Timothy Dunne finished fifth in the 800m for an all-big 12 award. Sunny Gilbert and Becky Rigel each take home Big 12 hardware after finishing sixth and seventh respectively in the women's 800m. The men's 4x400m relay rounded out the MU scoring by finishing fourth at 3:08.73, all-Big 12 honors go to the team of Chad Shade, Kristian Fagerland, Thomas Woods, and Derrick Peterson.

Also competeing on Sunday for Missouri was Eli Sommerfeldt (10th;triple jump), a career best 39-1 jump, Tracey Holloman (14th;javelin), Women's 4x100m Relay (9th), Men's 4x100m Relay (9th), Michelle Moran (12th; high jump), Rannveig Kvalvik (14th;high jump), Michael Pitts (20th;5000m), Mike Larson (21st; 5000m), Adam MacDowell (24th;5000m), Katie Meyer (15th;5000m), Women's 4x400m Relay (9th)
