1998-99 Schedule
COLUMBIA, Mo.-- The University of Missouri women's basketball schedule has been finalized for the upcoming 1998-99 season, as announced by the MU athletic department.
Head Coach Cindy Stein and her first Tiger squad will look to improve on a 11-16 record last season as they face nine teams that reached postseason play last year. Highlighting the non conference slate are appearances in the Iowa's Praire Lights Classic as well a road game at Arkansas.
The Tigers will get the regular season underway on Friday, Nov. 19th with Bradley. The Tigers will travel to the University of Iowa to play in the Priarie Lights Classic. Iowa won the Big 10 Conference Title last year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Missouri will also face Princeton and Duquesne in the Classic.
In the 21st annual Mid-America Classic the Tigers will host Louisville, Jackson State and Texas Southern. Louisville finished second behind Memphis in the Conference USA rankings last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Missouri will again travel to Arkansas on Dec. 19th to face the Lady Razorbacks. The Lady Razorbacks advanced to the NCAA Final Four last year in Kansas City. Other non conference games include Southeast Missouri State (Nov. 24), Illinois State (Dec. 8), Missouri-Rolla (Dec. 21), and Western Illinois (Dec. 29).
In the Big 12 matrix, Missouri will face South Division opponents Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Texas at home and will travel to Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Baylor. MU will play home and away games against North Division opponents Kansas, Kansas State, Colorado, Nebraska and Iowa State. Seven teams in the Big 12 Conference advanced to postseason play last season. Last season Kansas advanced to the Sweet Sixteen and Texas Tech, Nebraska and Iowa State advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Additionally, two Big 12 opponents made appearances in the WNIT --- Baylor, the 1998 WNIT tournament runner-up, and Oklahoma State.
