COLUMBIA, Mo. -
Two tough meets in seven days have kept the Missouri women busy, and improving. The Tigers finished third of 22 teams at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
"We knew that South Florida(19) and Tennessee(28) are real solid teams, and we expected them to finish at the top," Head Coach Jeff Pigg said, "so for us to finish third behind them is not bad."
The Tigers were led by freshman Ann Marie Brooks who finished seventh overall with a time of 18:04.60. It was the fourth time in as many tries that Brooks has led the Tigers this year.
"Ann Marie ran another great race. She was up their with a lot of top runners in the nation, so this was a good finish for her," Pigg said.
Kim Moore(Fr.) finished 13th overall as she continues to make vast improvements in her first collegiate season.
"Kim ran a super race, for her to step up like this for us is really a good sign. Katie(Meyer) was bothered a little bit by a virus she has, so Kim came in and ran second for us," Pigg explains.
Sunny Gilbert, Justa Dahl, and Jessica Patton finished out the points for the Tigers as they finished 22nd, 25th, and 27th respectively.
"Sunny and Jessica both had their best collegiate races tonight. They have both been training real hard this season and it is starting to pay off," commented Pigg.
This race marked the end of the regular season for the Missouri Cross Country team as they prepare for the Big XII Championships on Oct. 31 in Lincoln, Neb.
"This team is continuing to make strides. This is a team that can still qualify for Nationals," Pigg said.
Results from the mens' race were not available at this time. Mens' results will be released as soon as they are available.
