R.J. Layton is in his third season as an Assistant Director of Strategic Communications. His primary responsibilities include handling communications efforts for men's basketball and men's golf.
Layton spent the past two years as the SID for the nationally-ranked women's basketball program, spearheading communications during back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. He also assisted with football communications.
Layton comes from The Citadel military college, where he spent a year as the primary contact for men's basketball, volleyball, golf and track & field.
Prior to that, he worked in the Mizzou Strategic Communications office for more than two years. In his first season at Missouri, Layton worked directly with Mizzou's nationally ranked softball and swimming and diving teams. He was later promoted to a full time associate and served as the primary contact for wrestling and women’s tennis and the secondary contact for men’s basketball at Mizzou.
Layton, a Lafayette, Indiana, native, graduated cum laude from Mizzou with a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in strategic communications and public relations.
