Jon McAfoos enters his first year with the University of Missouri Athletics Department in 2026-27 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Broadcast Operations, overseeing all aspects of broadcast production.
Prior to joining Mizzou, McAfoos spent three years with the University of Houston Athletics Department as the Assistant AD for Cougar Productions. With the Cougars, McAfoos led the department’s broadcast operations, including the hiring, training, scheduling, and management of all student, freelance, and on-air personnel, while producing over 100 ESPN broadcasts annually. He also managed departmental broadcast budgets and long-term operational planning. In addition to live event coverage, he hosted and produced Cougars All-Access, featuring interviews with coaches and student-athletes, and served on the department’s External Leadership Team.
Before his time with UH, McAfoos spent eight years on the Samford University Athletics staff, beginning as the Director of Digital Media and ending as the Assistant AD for Marketing, Strategic Communications, and Broadcast Services, where he oversaw all aspects of fan engagement, broadcasting, creative content, social media, and communications. He also served on the department’s Senior Leadership Team.
During his tenure, McAfoos helped transform Samford’s television production capabilities by leading the planning, design, and construction of a broadcast control room inside the Pete Hanna Center that houses two full-scale production units capable of producing simultaneous ESPN broadcasts. Following the completion of the project, Samford produced an average of 120 ESPN productions annually, including broadcasts for every women’s soccer, volleyball, football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball home game, as well as select track meets and men’s and women’s tennis matches.
In addition to live events, McAfoos produced and hosted multiple studio shows featuring interviews and stories highlighting Samford staff, coaches, and student-athletes.
Prior to joining Samford, McAfoos spent two seasons in Minor League Baseball, serving as a Production Assistant with the Birmingham Barons (Chicago White Sox Double-A) and Quad Cities River Bandits (Houston Astros Single-A). Additional broadcast experience includes productions for ESPN, CBS, MLB, NCAA March Madness, LOVB, DAZN, UAB, Troy, Georgia State, and Jacksonville State, as well as the SEC, Conference USA, SoCon, Southland, WAC, SWAC, USFL, Shriners College Classic, Birmingham Bowl, Birmingham Squadron (NBA G-League), Birmingham Bulls (SPHL), Birmingham Legion FC (USL), and Birmingham Iron (AAF).
A native of Warren, Pennsylvania, McAfoos earned a BA in Broadcast Communications from Westminster (Pa.) College in 2011, where he gained extensive experience in both on-air and behind-the-scenes production through the college’s radio and television stations.
