Bryan Maggard was named Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Operating Officer at the University of Missouri in July 2026. In his role, he provides executive leadership for the department's internal administrative operations and serves as the sport administrator for Mizzou Men's Basketball.
Maggard returned to Mizzou after serving nine years as Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Louisiana, where he led one of the nation's premier Group of Five athletics departments. Since joining Louisiana as athletics director in 2017 and adding the vice president title in 2021, he guided the Ragin' Cajuns to 20 Sun Belt Conference championships and 23 NCAA postseason appearances.
During his tenure, Louisiana captured Sun Belt championships in football, baseball and softball and became the only program in the nation to win conference titles in all three sports while also earning a football bowl victory during the 2021-22 athletics year. Under Maggard's leadership, the department generated a record $30 million in fundraising, secured the largest gift in school history ($15 million), launched the department's "Let's Geaux!" strategic plan and negotiated a landmark 10-year multimedia rights partnership with Learfield.
A respected leader on the national stage, Maggard was appointed to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee in 2026. He also served as chair of the Sun Belt Conference athletics directors, co-chaired the conference's expansion committee and was a member of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee.
Prior to leading Louisiana Athletics, Maggard spent 22 years at the University of Missouri, most recently serving as Executive Associate Athletics Director. Maggard oversaw a broad portfolio of administrative and student-athlete support areas, including academics, athletic performance, sports medicine, equipment operations, athletic dining, sport and counseling psychology services, and student-athlete development. He also directed several of the department's external revenue operations, including development, marketing, ticket sales and multimedia rights, while playing a key leadership role in Missouri's successful transition into the Southeastern Conference.
In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Maggard served as an adjunct instructor in the university's Sport Management program, helping establish the academic curriculum for the degree program. He was also a member of the university's Graduate Faculty and participated on doctoral examination and dissertation committees.
Before returning to Missouri, Maggard held athletics administration positions at Florida State University and Kansas State University, where he directed academic support services for the football programs at both institutions.
A native of Kansas, Maggard earned both his bachelor's degree in journalism and master's degree in health and physical education from Kansas State before completing his Ph.D. in Educational and Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri. He and his wife, Kerry, have three children: Dalton, Aubrey and Kaylin.
