What They're Saying…
Tami Chievous is in her 21st year with Mizzou Athletics, and her eighth as Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services. She has oversight of the Academic Support component of the Mizzou Made Academics program, serves as the chief liaison with University Deans’ offices and campus departments, and is the sport program administrator for wrestling. The Mizzou Made Academics program provides comprehensive academic and professional development resources to more than 500 MU student-athletes.
Under her leadership, Mizzou student-athletes have excelled in the classroom, establishing school records in the NCAA academic metrics of APR, GSR and Federal Graduation Rate while also registering semester grade-point average records in five of the last six semesters, including an overall semester record 3.44 mark for the spring 2020 term. Mizzou Athletics has earned 17 APR Public Recognition Awards under Chievous’ direction.
Prior to her promotion in April 2013, she was the Assistant Director for Academic Services, and coordinated all the academic support services for the men's and women's basketball programs, as well as softball. During her time at Mizzou, Chievous helped the Mizzou men's and women's basketball programs and softball program to unprecedented academic achievement during a run of program-wide classroom success and involvement in the Columbia community. She works closely with the student-athletes monitoring their academic progress, coordinating study hall, assigning mentors and tutors, communicating with faculty and advising students one-on-one about course work and major selection.
Chievous was selected to participate in the Chancellor's Emerging Leaders Program and then was honored to be part of the Administrative Leadership Development Program for the University of Missouri System. She continues to broaden her horizons at Mizzou with her involvement with various campus committees including Co-Chair for the Chancellors Diversity Initiative MLK committee. She also teaches SSC 1150, a freshmen learning strategies and development course. She is currently a member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics and serves as a mentor for new academic coordinators.
Chievous graduated from Fort Hays State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1999. She went on to earn a master's degree in educational administration from FHSU in 2001 and then served as the assistant to the Academic Counselor/Compliance Coordinator at FHSU for three years. Chievous also worked as a student assistant for the women's basketball team for four seasons during her undergraduate study. Chievous was also a teaching assistant for the department of Education Administration for two years and worked as an administrative assistant for the Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator during the 2000-2001 season.
She is married to Derrick Chievous, and they are the proud parents of two sons, Tahki and Aven, and a daughter, Malia.
