Cynthia Metz was named Mizzou's Head Cheerleading Coach & Mascot Coordinator in 2019.
Under her leadership, the program has seen a 100 percent increase in tryout applicants while social media engagement has doubled. The team’s presence on Gameday has also made an overall positive impact on the fan experience at Mizzou athletic events.
In 2024, Metz led the Mizzou Cheer Team to back-to-back National Championships in the Intermediate Large Coed Division 1A. Truman the Tiger also earned the title of National Champion. The All-Girl team excelled as a top 5 finisher in the Advanced All-Girl Division 1A.
Mizzou’s Large Coed team captured the first National title in Mizzou program history in 2023. That school year the All-Girl team finished fifth in the Advanced Division 1A, and Truman the Tiger earned third place in the Mascot competition.
A former four-year Cheerleader at Mizzou, Metz previously served as the team’s Assistant Coach from 2005 to 2019 before being elevated to Head Coach.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Missouri. Metz also earned a master’s degree from Mizzou in Curriculum and Instruction. She previously worked as an elementary school teacher from 2004 to 2011.
Cynthia Metz lives in Columbia with her husband, Dennis, and two daughters, Summer, and Malia.
