2007-08: Wrestling at 174 pounds, Andrews placed among the top eight at three tournaments during his junior season. Andrews took fourth at the Dana Open Jan. 5, fourth at the Roger Denker Open, Jan. 18 and fourth at the Missouri Valley College Open, Feb. 2. Among Andrews' victories was an 8-0 win by major decision over Justin Grosse of Wisconsin Jan. 5, at the Dana Open and a 6-0 decision over Tony Leon of Lindenwood Feb 2 at the Missouri Valley College Open.
2006-07: Andrews made his second career start in the Missouri lineup when he took on Derek Coffet of Old Dominion on Feb. 14. Wrestling at 174 pounds, Andrews suffered a 6-0 loss at home in the Hearnes Center. Competing in four tournaments, Andrews finished as high as fifth at the Missouri Valley Open, finishing the day-long event with a 4-2 record that included a fall in 3:12 over Jake Oberfoell of Missouri Valley. Andrews' fifth-place win came in the form of a 4-3 decision over Shawn Kuhlman of Fort Hays.
2005-06: Beginning his redshirt freshman campaign at the Lindenwood Open Oct. 29, Andrews recorded the first of four shutouts on the season after holding down Jared Sugden of McKendree College, 6-0. Andrews collected 11 wins in his first competitive year of wrestling and of his final seven bouts, Andrews claimed four victories, three coming by fall. Competing at the Missouri Valley Open, Feb. 4, Andrews recorded his fastest pin of the season in 1:21 over Eric Siesener of Missouri Baptist.
2004-05: Receiving a warm greeting to the world of college wrestling, Andrews won a close match in his first contest by beating Matt Warren of SIU-Edwardsville 6-5 on Nov. 4. Andrews picked up the first pin of his career in 1:46 against John Wilcox of Missouri Valley at the Missouri Valley Open Jan. 29, the fastest of two falls he recorded on the day.
HIGH SCHOOL: Andrews left behind his No. 1 ranking in the state of Virginia after graduating from McLean in 2004. Under the direction of Head Coach Joe McCaferey, Andrews wrestled at 171 pounds with the Highlanders and was named the Most Valuable Player as a senior in 2004. Competing at the Virginia State Freestyle Championships, Andrews finished third as a junior (2003) and second as a senior (2004). A three-sport athlete, Andrews was honored as Most Valuable Player for the football team and earned all-district honors for his role as running back. Andrews totaled seven letters through his four years of high school and earned a 3.50 grade-point average. Strong in science, Andrews finished fourth in the International Science Fair.
PERSONAL: John is the son of Peter and Cheryl Andrews and was born in Falls Church, Va., on Feb. 2, 1986. Andrews has one older brother, Ryan (25) and is majoring in psychology.
