Shane Bishop arrived at the University of Missouri in the fall of 2006 after completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Iowa State University. Bishop worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer responsible for the coverage of the Mizzou Wrestling team. Bishop's interest in wrestling began in high school as a grappler in the state of Iowa. He has enjoyed the sport and jumped on the opportunity to work with the wrestling program here at Missouri. After graduating from Mizzou in the spring of 2008 with a Masters of Education degree in the area of Health Education and Promotion Bishop was asked to stay on with the staff full-time and continue to work with wrestling.
Bishop completed a summer internship with the Indianapolis Colts in 2005 with the intent to pursue a graduate degree after college. As his experience has grown off the turf and on to the mat, he has worked with USA Wrestling which aided in the coverage of the US Olympic Trials in 2008 and 2012, as well as coverage at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing working with former 2-time NCAA National Champion and Mizzou Wrestler, Ben Askren. Bishop is beginning his eighth year on the Tiger staff and has been an intricate part of the team in working with team physician, Dr. Bus Tarbox, communicating with coaches, as well as showing his versatility in the realm of strength and conditioning.
Bishop holds membership is both the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the National Athletics Trainers Association. He is NATABOC certified and licensed to practice in the state of Missouri. Shane enjoys being a part of the Missouri Wrestling program; he enjoys fitness, exercise, and sports. In his spare time, he enjoys NASCAR, country concerts, skydiving, MMA and everything outdoors. He enjoys taking a break a couple times a year to work on the family farm.
Shane is from Mount Ayr, Iowa, where his parents Randy and Christine Bishop still reside. He has two siblings sister Mekenze and brother Kegan.
