Chris Carter completed his fourth season as an assistant swimming coach for Mizzou in 2022-23.

During his fourth campaign with Missouri, Carter led the men's team to a 17th place finish at the NCAA Championships. One swimmer earned First Team All-America accolades, while four others earned All-America honorable mention honors in various individual events. All of the Tiger's relays had top-20 finishes at the championships, and four program records were broken this season, including two at the NCAA's.

During his third season in Columbia, the Mizzou men finished in 25th at the NCAA Championships. Three Tiger swimmers and all five relays qualified for NCAAs, where they earned four All-America honors, including one first team accolade. Two Mizzou men set school records during the 2021-22 campaign.

In his second season with the Tigers, Carter helped lead the Mizzou men’s team to a 16th place finish at the NCAA Championships. At the championships, four individuals and three relays earned All-America honors. The Tiger men recorded two school records, three top-seven finishes and 10 top-15 finishes.

In his first season in Columbia, Carter helped the Tiger men to a fifth-place finish at the 2020 Southeastern Conference Championships in February. Mizzou concluded the regular season a perfect 8-0 in dual meets and ranked seventh in the final regular season TYR / CSCAA Division I Poll. The Tigers qualified five men's swimmers to eventually canceled NCAA Championships, and a total of seven men's swimmers garnered CSCAA All-America honors for the 2019-20 campaign.

Carter came to Columbia after seven seasons at The College of William & Mary.

"I am so happy that Chris has decided to join the Mizzou family," Grevers said. "His caring demeanor, positive attitude, and attention to detail will have a tremendous impact on our student-athletes. I know I speak for everyone here when I say we are so excited about the completed staff that will be leading this great program into the future."

"I am thrilled to be joining the Missouri swimming and diving family," Carter said. "After several conversations with Coach Grevers, Dr. Brian Brown, and the rest of the staff, the excitement around the program is palpable. I'm eager to carry out the vision of Coach Grevers and work with some amazingly talented student-athletes and staff. While it was a tough decision to leave William & Mary after seven years, I'm tremendously proud of what we accomplished in the pool and the classroom. I'm looking forward to the next step and can't wait to hit the ground running!"

In his seven years in Williamsburg, Carter helped William & Mary become the most decorated program in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The Tribe win seven CAA team titles during his time on deck, as the men claimed titles in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, and the women took home team crowns in 2016 and 2017.

As the primary middle and distance free, 400 IM and 200 fly coach, Carter's swimmers won 23 CAA individual titles, including six-consecutive in the men's 400 IM, and set 26 school records. His influence on William & Mary was recognized in 2016 when he was named CollegeSwimming.com's National Rising Coach of the Year.

Prior to William & Mary, Carter spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Georgia Southern. He started his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Athens Bulldog Swim Club from 2007-11.

Carter earned a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education from Georgia in 2010 and a Master's in Sports Psychology from Georgia Southern in 2012.
