Kerensa Barr

TitleAssistant Coach

One of Missouri’s all-time great guards, Kerensa Barr transitioned from player to coach in 2004, joining the women’s basketball staff as a graduate assistant. She was promoted to assistant coach the following year and served in that role from 2005 to 2007.

The West Plains, Missouri, native’s career came full circle, as she was the first recruit Stein contacted after becoming Mizzou’s head coach in 1998. Barr then recruited the nation’s top talent herself.

Barr’s primary responsibilities included working with the Tigers’ guards. She also assisted with the program’s marketing and community service efforts, film breakdown and scouting.

Barr was promoted to a full-time position after serving one season as a graduate assistant for the Tigers. In that role, she assisted with video editing, film exchange and on-campus recruiting. She also served two seasons alongside David Lile as an analyst for the Tiger Radio Network’s coverage of Mizzou women’s basketball.

Barr finished her outstanding four-year playing career in 2003 as the Tigers’ all-time leader in assists (489) and free-throw percentage (.812). She also ranked second in steals (242) and third in 3-pointers (109). She was a three-year team captain, including during Mizzou’s memorable 2001 run to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, the program’s best season in more than 15 years.

Beyond her accomplishments at Missouri, Barr was a member of the Big 12 all-star team that traveled to Europe in 2001 and had a tryout with USA Basketball that same year.

Barr also excelled academically, earning Academic All-America honors in 2002. She was the first Tiger to receive the honor since 1985. In 2003, she was named one of eight finalists for the Socrates Award, which recognizes a student-athlete who best exemplifies excellence in athletics and academics. She was the only women’s basketball player in the country and one of just two athletes overall to be named a finalist.

Barr earned bachelor’s degrees in finance and banking and real estate from Missouri in 2002. She later earned a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing in 2005.
