Shayne McKenzie begins her second season on the Mizzou strength and conditioning staff, where her primary assignments are with the Tiger women's basketball and football teams. Her duties are coordinating the women's professional development of the Mizzou Performance Club, supervising team and individual training sessions, and testing strength/power/conditioning of athletes. She works closely with the coaches and athletes to meet specific athletic goals.
Although she is relatively new to Columbia, she is not unfamiliar with her co-workers. McKenzie is a 2003 graduate of Oral Roberts, where she worked with, among others, the Golden Eagle women's basketball team and assistant coach Eric Ely.
She reunited with Ely on the Tiger staff after a brief stint as a graduate assistant at Arkansas. While in Fayetteville, McKenzie worked directly with the swimming and diving and women's basketball teams. She also assisted with the soccer, softball and volleyball programs.
McKenzie began her strength and conditioning career at ORU, where she was responsible for the strength needs of the volleyball and golf teams. She was also involved in the day-to-day training of the men's and women's basketball and baseball teams.
The Haskell, Texas, native is no stranger to the demands of today's student-athlete, as McKenzie was a four-year member of both the ORU women's basketball and track teams, helping lead the Golden Eagles to their second NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001. The 2000 Mid-Continent Conference High Jump Champion, McKenzie also served on the Golden Eagles' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
A member of both the Collegiate Strength Conditioning Coaches Association and the National Strength Coaches Association, McKenzie is working toward completion of a Master of Education degree at Mizzou.
