Don Sommer is in his 11th year working with Dave Toub and his eighth at Missouri. After working as a graduate assistant for the Tigers, he was elevated to full-time status three years ago. In addition to assisting with football, he handles the conditioning needs of the women's basketball, baseball, track and swimming teams.
Sommer was a four-year starting offensive guard at Texas-El Paso from 1982-85 and was chosen to play in the 1985 Blue-Gray Game. Drafted by the Houston Oilers in the 10th round in 1986, he later played with the Buffalo Bills and the Indianapolis Colts.
A native of Katy, Texas, Sommer holds a bachelor's degree from UTEP and earned his master's degree in human performance at Missouri in 1991. The 33-year-old Sommer was born Feb. 1, 1964, and is married to the former Cindy Schroeder. They are parents of a two-year-old son, Dayne.
