1992-93:
MIZZOU: A strong, inside post player who proved to be the Tigers' top freshman in 1991-92. Saw action in 25 of MU's 28 games, averaging 2.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest. Will look to be a solid threat around the basket this season. Scored a career-high seven points against Memphis State, Dec. 17, helping Mizzou to a 69-54 victory over the Lady Tigers. Closed the 1991 portion of the schedule with her best defensive game. Utilizing her tremendous leaping ability, she recorded career bests in both rebounds, eight, and blocked shots, four, against Southeast Missouri State, Dec. 31.
HIGH SCHOOL: Averaged 18.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 6.0 steals and 5.0 assists per game as a senior. Also shot 43 percent from the field and 65 percent from the free throw line. Led her Thornwood High team to three consecutive conference and regional championships. Team finished with a 22-5 record during the 1990-91 campaign, losing to the eventual state champions in the playoffs. Tabbed a two-time first-team all-conference and all-Chicago area choice. Named MVP of the Maine East holiday tournament after leading Thornwood to the championship title. Also lettered in cross country and track. Member of the National Honor Society.

RUTHERFORD ON SMITH: "Nikki will be playing the forward and the post positions for us. She gained a lot of playing experience last year which has helped her overall play. She has become quicker, stronger and has really developed into a force inside. Nikki will be shooting more this season and will be a factor on the boards. She has a great attitude and is willing to go the extra mile to play. Nikki loves the game and knows how to win."
