1990-91:
MIZZOU: Will take over the job of running the Missouri offense at the point guard position with the departure of Marcia Brooks. Became the Tigers' key defensive player last season, starting 24 of 27 games. Averaged 6.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals. Finished the year with 57 total thefts to lead the team. Recorded eight steals against Southern Methodist to post the second-best theft total by a Mizzou player in one game. Handed out a career-high six assists in the season opener against Evansville. Scored 14 points versus Creighton to tie her career-high. Scored in double figures five times. As a sophomore, started four games while appearing in 27 contests. Sustained a stress fracture which hampered her progress. Averaged 4.6 points, 3.2 boards, 1.7 steals and 1.4 assists per game. As a freshman, played in 27 games, averaging 9.2 minutes per game. Displayed her offensive and defensive quickness with 17 assists and 23 steals during limited play. Recorded a six-assist effort versus Minnesota.
HIGH SCHOOL: Led her Jefferson High team to the regional championship and a 23-5 record as a senior. Two-time selection to the first-team all-state squad. Averaged 22.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.6 steals during her final prep season. Named the team's MVP as a junior. Scored 1,146 points during her three-year varsity career. Also lettered in track and softball. On the track, won the 1985 state championship in the 400-meter dash. Tabbed the 1986 softball MVP. An excellent student who was a 1986 and 1987 academic all-American. Also listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students as a junior and senior.

Carla has really improved on her shooting over the summer and will be a threat from the guard position."

College: Started four games while appearing in 27 contests in 1988-89. Compiled career highs in points (14) and rebounds (six) against Kansas State. Sustained a stress fracture which hampered her play. Had a career-best seven steals against Iowa State. Should be a key factor for Mizzou this season.

Rutherford on Yancey: “Carla was really coming into her own when she suffered a stress fracture in January and saw limited time after that. She is a great defensive player at the point position, and her speed and quickness really help move the offense. She has improved her shooting from last season. She's in great shape, and we're looking for Carla to start for us.”

College: Will battle for starting point guard spot. Good quickness and speed. Should see more playing time as she adjusts to college game.

Jefferson posted a 23-5 record last year, the most wins in the school's history. Team was regional champion and finished ranked ninth in the state. All-state selection twice. Earned team MVP and hustle awards. High school game highs include 32 points, 17 rebounds and 11 steals. State champion in the 400-meter run in 1985 and was a state finalist in track three times. Softball MVP as a junior. Academic all-America the last two years and listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. Major undecided. Parents are Clinton and Venie Yancey. Born 5-19-69.
