Another new face to dot the Missouri athletic staff is that of assistant coach Marguerite Keeley. The Kansas native has had a varied background since her graduation from Wichita State in 1977.
Most recently, Keeley worked as a television production assistant and sports reporter. She played professionally in the Women's Basketball League (WBL) 1979-80 and also with the Milwaukee Does during the 1978-79 season. She was named to the WBA professional all-star team in 1980 and captained the Milwaukee squad.
At Wichita State, Keeley received the "Outstanding Woman Athlete" award in 1977. She was selected to the junior college all-American squad while playing at Independence Junior College in 1977.
Keeley earned her undergraduate degree in journalism and completed her master's in physical education in 1983.
Rutherford plans to include Keeley extensively in Missouri's recruiting effort, particularly because of her contacts at the professional level.
"The program at Missouri is a first-class one because of the athletic department's total commitment. I feel fortunate to be working with one of the top coaches in the country," Keeley says.
