1977-78: Fifteen times last year when the final statistics were compiled, Nancy Rutter was the leading scorer for the team in 1977. Nancy played her best basketball in the second half of the season, really turning on at the nationals, averaging 21.6 points and 12.6 rebounds.

Nancy, who competed in all 40 games, was the leading scorer last year with a 16.68 average, with a high game of 40 against Graceland. Nancy led the team in rebounds at a 9.3 clip, and was the leading free throw shooter, hitting 75 percent of her shots.

Coach Rutherford said, “Nancy is dedicated to this program, she always works for the betterment of the team. I have great expectations for her this year.”

Rutter, who was elected co-captain for the third time this year, spent a good portion of the summer working on her game. She was a member of the “Athletes in Action” team that toured Europe and compiled a 6-1 record. She also has been honored by making the all-state tournament team in 1976 and the all-Big 8 tournament team in 1977.

Excellence in the classroom is equally important to Nancy, who has a 3.8 cumulative grade point average. The senior home economics education major is on the Dean’s List, is a University Scholar, is a member of the education honorary society and the home economics honorary society.
