| One of the greatest offensive linemen in Missouri history, Blaine lettered as a Tiger from 1959-61 for Coach Dan Devine. He received all-Big Eight Conference and all-America honors in 1961. A native of Farmington, Missouri, Blaine played in the East-West Shrine Game, the Senior Bowl and the College All-Star Game, and was drafted in the second round of the NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers, for whom he was an all-pro selection in 1964. He went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles through 1966 and was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. A noted pharmaceutical researcher, he became director of MUs Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center and professor in the department of medical pharmacology and physiology. Blaine was the speaker at Mizzous commencement exercises in May 1991. In 2009, he was recognized as a Distinguished Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America, an honor shared by such notables as President Gerald Ford and astronaut Neil Armstrong. |
