Jennifer Lewis (Artioli) is entering her sixteenth year as an athletic trainer here at Mizzou. After spending a little over a decade with the Tiger Track and Field and Cross Country Programs she moved to coverage of the Mizzou Baseball Program in Fall of 2014 which concluded this past summer and has now transitioned to the Mizzou Softball Program.
Lewis received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of South Florida in Tampa. There she was part of the inaugural Athletic Training Education Program class which received its accreditation in May of 2003. At South Florida, she was the recipient of the Lisa Barth Memorial Award for Most Improved Athletic Training Student from 2000-2001, and the Student Athletic Trainer of the Year award in 2002-2003. While at USF, she was involved in a variety of extracurricular activities including Women’s Club Crew (1999), Herd of Thunder Marching Band (1999-2002), Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity (Historian 2000, VP 2001, President 2002), and the Student Athletic Trainer’s Association (2000-2003). Lewis came to Mizzou in the fall of 2003 as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, finishing her master's degree in Health Education and Promotion in the spring of 2005. Following graduate school, Lewis was promoted to a full-time athletic trainer at Mizzou.
Lewis’s primary focus working with Tiger softball team is preventative maintenance of chronic injury to the overhead athlete, as well as day-to-day treatment and rehabilitation due to acute and insidious injury.
Working under the Director of Sports Medicine, Rex Sharp, Lewis has been given a variety of responsibilities, administratively. Tasks range from duties in the sports medicine department, such as maintaining the Mizzou Sports Medicine website, maintaining the department’s pre-participation paperwork, assisting in the yearly intern search, and liaison with Cerner HealtheAthlete.
Recently Lewis’s secondary focus has been teaching in the Athletic Training Program at Mizzou. She has experience in teaching as an adjunct instructor in Athletic Training Skills I (2013-2014), Mental Illness in Athletic Training (2014-2017) and currently Nutrition for Athletic Performance and Rehabilitation.
Lewis is a Board Certified Athletic Trainer through NATABOC and licensed through the Missouri Board of Healing Arts to practice in the state. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the Mid-America Athletic Trainer’s Association, and the Missouri Athletic Trainers Association. She is also an American Red Cross CPR Instructor, holds certifications in Graston technique and kinesiotaping, and has completed both, CES, PES, and FMS courses for continuing education purposes.
Formerly Ms. Jennifer Artioli, she was married on October 25th of 2015 to Tom Lewis. They reside in Columbia with their twin girls, McKenzie (3) and Sophia (3).
