NORMAN, Okla. – Mizzou baseball dropped the series finale of its three-game Southeastern Conference series to No. 14 Oklahoma, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon at Kimrey Family Stadium.
Lefty Javyn Pimental made his return to the mound for the Tigers (20-20, 3-15 SEC), making his first start since March 20 after missing time due to injury. However, it was short lived as the Sooners (27-12, 10-8 SEC) were able to push across four runs in the second inning to jump out to an early lead and chase Pimental from the game after 1.1 innings.
In the fourth, OU added on with another four spot – three coming on a two-out, three-run home run – to make it an 8-0 lead.
The Tigers got on the board in the top of the seventh inning with a solo home run (398 ft.) off the bat of shortstop Kam Durnin – his fourth big fly of the season. Mizzou added a pair of runs in the top of the eighth after Kaden Peer led the inning off with his second hit of the game, Eric Maisonet singled through the left side and Tyler Macon walked to load the bases. Freshman Blaize Ward came to the plate and delivered a two-out, two-run single to cut the deficit to five.
Mizzou added another run in the ninth on a two-out RBI single from Maisonet that brought home Mateo Serna. The two-out rally stopped there as Peer and Maisonet were left stranded and the Sooners hung on for the 8-4 win.
