Dyer becomes the second National Champion for the Swimming and Diving program, and first since 2018.
ATLANTA – Senior Collier Dyer (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe HS) claimed Mizzou diving's first NCAA Championship, as he broke the program record with a 497.75 in the 3-meter, on Friday, March 27, at McAuley Aquatic Center.
Dyer joined the ranks of Fabian Schwingenschlogl, becoming the second NCAA Champion for the Tigers and the first diver to accomplish the feat.
"Incredibly grateful and proud to represent Mizzou," Collier said. "I wouldn't be here without the village of people that have supported me throughout my journey. M-I-Z!"
The senior earned his spot in the final with a sixth-place finish in the preliminaries, recording a score of 387.55. He ultimately flipped his score as he went from a backend qualifying score to an NCAA Champion, as he recorded a 497.75. SMU's Luke Sitz followed him with a 495.30, and USC's Moritz Wesemann rounded out the top three with a score of 485.85.
"I'm incredibly proud of Collier and Coach Bogner. What stands out most is how Collier handled the adversity he faced midseason with resilience, maturity, and belief in himself," head coach Andrew Grevers said. "To respond the way he did and finish as an NCAA Champion speaks volumes about his character and the leadership of our diving program. It's a special moment for our entire team."
This was a major improvement from a year ago, when the diver failed to qualify for the finals, posting a score of 280.95 in the 3-meter competition.
"Collier did a great job tonight," head diving coach Kyle Bogner said. "I'm so proud of what he has accomplished as a Missouri Tiger and I can't wait to see what the future holds for him."
Other scores from the afternoon include a 47th-place finish from junior Tanner Braunton in the same event. Sophomore Luke Nebrich finished 25th in the 50-yard free preliminaries with a time of 19.18. The 400-yard medley relay placed 27th with a time of 3:07.37.
The Tigers head into the final day of competition with Nebrich competing in the 100-yard free, senior Jan Zubik in the 200-yard fly, Mizzou competing as a relay in the 400-yard free, and three divers in the platform dive – Braunton, junior Tommaso Zannella and sophomore Derek Colbert. Day Three starts at 9 a.m. with the prelims and will host the finals at 5 p.m. at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
