
Innes Set to Compete at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship

The senior travels to Fayetteville for his second indoor national championship.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou track and field's Sam Innes will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete for the men's weight throw title at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
The men's weight throw finals are scheduled for 4 p.m. on the first day of the event. The NCAA announced selections on Wednesday.
TIGERS' CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Innes will be seeking the first championship title for his event. Jonathan Seremes became the most recent champion for the Black and Gold, winning the triple jump with a 17.04m (55-11) at last year's meet. Mizzou owns 13 individual national championships – four on the men's side and nine by the women.
Derrick Peterson won the men's most recent championship in 1999 in the 800-meter run. Jim Crawford, Charlie McMullen, Mike Rabuse, and Dave Rogles won the distance medley relay title in 1974, while Robin Lingle claimed the first national title in program history in 1965 in the 1000-yard run.
The women own titles in five events, with its most recent coming by Karissa Schweizer in the 5000m in 2017 and 2018 and the 3000m in 2018. Kearsten Peoples owns the lone field event championship by the Tigers, which she claimed in the weight throw in 2015, while Ann Marie Brooks, Sunny Gilbert, Kerry Hils and Ashley Wysong claimed the distance medley relay in 2001. The women's first championship came in the 400m by Natasha Kaiser in 1989.
LAST TIME AT THE NCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP
At the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championship, Innes earned a Second Team All-American honor, placing 14th with a throw of 20.97m (68-9.75). This marked the first time a Mizzou athlete was named to an All-American recognition for men's weight throw since 2009.
Sterling Scott joined Seremes as First Team member after taking eighth in the men's triple jump, the first time Mizzou's men's team has produced two First Team All-Americans at the NCAA Indoor Championship in the same event since 2010.
On the women's side, Euphenie Andre and Kristi Perez-Snyman received the accolade after finishing sixth in triple jump and high jump, respectively. Andre became the second Tiger triple jumper to receive the indoors honor twice. Claudina Diaz notched a Second Team recognition for her No. 15 result in women's high jump. Perez-Snyman joined her in becoming the third and fourth in Missouri's event history, respectively, to receive All-American honors in the indoor event.
LAST TIME OUT
The school record holder placed fourth in the men's weight throw at the 2026 SEC Indoor Championship with a 22.22m (72-10.75) to lead MU in the event.
Innes enters the competition ranked No. 11 nationally for his 22.68m (74-5) mark performed at the Missouri Invitational, leading the team to secure a No. 7 spot on the leaderboard for five consecutive weeks. The group ranked as high as fifth and sixth for the first and second week of the indoor campaign.
